How to clean your dishwasher
1. Clean your filter
Your filter is bound to accumulate gunk—after all, that’s it’s main function. So a good first step when cleaning your dishwasher is to clean that filter. We have a whole separate article and video about how to clean your dishwasher filter if you want full details. https://79handyrepairs.co.za/
Short version: Unscrew it from the dishwasher—it’s usually located at the bottom—and soak it in warm, soapy water for about 10 minutes. If there are any tough food particles still hanging on, you can scrub gently with a toothbrush, but try not to scrub too hard—your filter is fragile!
When you’re satisfied, put the filter back into the dishwasher where it belongs.
2. Deodorize with vinegar
Vinegar is one of the most versatile liquids in existence—aside from water, that is. This acidic concoction can be used for cooking, killing weeds, and, yes, cleaning. Put its cleaning and deodorizing powers to good use by pouring a cup of white vinegar into the bottom of your empty dishwasher.
Run a heavy clean cycle. By the end of the cycle, your dishwasher should be fresh and sparkly-clean!
3. Deodorize with baking soda
Just to make sure your dishwasher is extra clean and devoid of any foul odors, sprinkle a cup of baking soda in the bottom of your dishwasher. Let it sit overnight. In the morning, run an empty cycle, and then rejoice in the cleanliness of your beloved appliance!

Tip #1 on how to clean your microwave
Cleaning your microwave is not easy especially when you didn’t clean it in a while. A buildup of gunk can form on sides and roof of your microwave causing it to stink. If it's been sitting in there for a while, then the bits of food may have hardened to the point of making it almost impossible to remove.
Vinegar and water solution is the way to go. Steam-cleaning the inside of the appliance with a vinegar-water solution will remedy the mess without much effort. Here's what you need.
Stir stick or a tooth pick or two
Vinegar (preferably white)
Sponge, cloth or paper towel
Pour 250 ml vinegar and 250 ml water into the bowl.
Insert a toothpick or another small wooden object into the vinegar-water solution. ( it minimizes the chances of spillages.)
Bubbles will form on the toothpick or wooden implement, letting it boil without spilling.
Heat the bowl for five to 10 minutes, depending on how dirty the microwave is. When the time is up, leave it in for a minute or two to let it steam it up more.
After letting it sit for a bit, take the bowl out with oven mitts, because it's going to be very hot. Then, take a sponge and dip it into the hot vinegar-water mixture and scrub down your microwave. Most likely you won't need a sponge, and the gunk will come off easily with a few swipes of the rag or paper towel.
